The article highlights one of Perloff’s studies, which found that the number of miles farmworkers travel within the United States each year has dropped almost 40 percent since 1993, exacerbating labor shortages on farms. “We can’t prove that fear of being caught by ICE was responsible for the decline, but it’s likely that fear is at least one of the factors,” says Perloff.
