Introducing BFI’s Policy Director, Neha Sanghera
Neha Sanghera joins BFI after recently completing her Master’s in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

BFI is excited to welcome Neha Sanghera as our new Policy Director. Neha joins BFI after completing her Master’s in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. In graduate school, Neha was a clinical student at the Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic, where she collaborated with the Zero Food Waste Coalition to address food loss and waste. She also worked with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on her capstone project, which examined state-level adoption and implementation of the Federal Food Service Guidelines. In addition, she completed a summer project with the Center for Good Food Purchasing to advance supplier diversification within the Good Food Purchasing Program. Neha’s professional background spans water resources, local government, and food systems. Neha holds an undergraduate degree in Hydrology from UC Santa Barbara.
As the new Policy Director, Neha will lead BFI’s policy program and play a key role in connecting faculty research with relevant policy discussions in California and Washington D.C. With a focus on policy communication and dissemination, Neha will amplify BFI’s engagement with policymakers and coalitions of organizations which are addressing critical policy issues in food and agricultural systems. She will serve on the CA Farm to School Incubator Grant Program Evaluation team, where she will provide policy analysis and develop policy recommendations that are informed by the program evaluation findings. She will also serve as the policy lead for Equitable Agrivoltaics: Accelerating Climate Transitions at the Energy-Agriculture Nexus, a project funded through UC Berkekey’s Interdisciplinary Climate and Equity Seed Grant. This project examines how the multiple climate and environmental benefits of agrivoltaic systems can be equitably distributed.
“I am thrilled to join BFI and support its mission of shaping a just and sustainable farm and food system. What makes this role and BFI unique is its engagement across the entire food system,” says Neha. “The opportunity to leverage university resources and bring together interdisciplinary perspectives on key food policy issues is truly exciting!”
