Policy Summary
This paper looks at the implementation of sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) taxes on different types of retailers in Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco. Findings indicated that a majority of businesses experienced minimal effects on their businesses, with 53% saying they thought other cities should also adopt the SSB tax and 53% supporting a statewide SSB tax. This has implications for supporting the health goals of SSB taxes and a statewide expansion.
