Policy Summary

Building accountability systems can lead to a more effective pursuit of sustainability in business operations. Such systems enable retailers to gather information across product life cycles, define sustainability issues and priorities, identify and implement practices, develop decision-making tools and processes and evaluate performance.  Compared to their American counterparts, British retailers appear to be better placed to deal with longer-term regulatory, health, political and environmental developments worldwide. This is more for business than policy, but may have regulatory implications.
