Policy Summary
This study identifies opportunities for further research to inform policy. International Political Economy (IPE) scholars can create a much more holistic understanding of consumption. They can do so by examining how new kinds of regulation can link production and consumption. They can show how global production system structures and operating patterns affect consumption in many countries. And they can highlight how the solutions to consumption problems can be re-framed to include production system, not just individual consumption, changes. In these ways IPE scholars can aid the transition to sustainable consumption.
