Policy Summary

Certifications around organic and fair trade do not accurately reflect the social and environmental conditions of production, thus potentially jeopardizing the entire basis of the certification systems. A more nuanced and robust incorporation of “place” at the point of production into international certified commodity systems would go a long way.
