Our Programs

Research

Supporting interdisciplinary food systems research

Academic research plays a central role in our mission to leverage UC Berkeley resources to shape a just California food system. At UC Berkeley, research is undertaken within several types of organizations, including academic departments, institutes and centers, and field stations. BFI Affiliated Faculty and Staff represent labs and research organizations throughout a variety of departments and organizations on campus. These organizations also consist of postdoctoral scholars, research scientists, and graduate and undergraduate students conducting original research and collaborating with scientists throughout the UC system and beyond.

This interdisciplinary research community generates knowledge that informs how we understand and shape food systems. Through grants, trainings, fellowships, and other forms of funding, we support our research community and lean on their work to inform our programming.
