The Graduate Certificate in Food Systems empowers new leaders with the capacity to create innovative solutions to pressing food and agriculture challenges. Building on UC Berkeley’s strength as a cross-disciplinary pioneer in food systems studies, the Graduate Certificate in Food Systems prepares masters and doctoral students to think critically about the multi-level, multi-system factors that impact food production, distribution, and consumption locally, nationally, and globally.

The Food Systems Minor is an interdisciplinary program of study that explores the role of food within society and the environment. Launched in Fall 2015 and hosted by the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at the Rausser College of Natural Resources, the minor draws from diverse fields, such as ecology, sociology, nutrition, history, and economics.

We are an ardent supporter of urban agriculture. In 2020, students organized and launched Berkeley Student Farms, a coalition of seven student-led garden and farm spaces on the UC Berkeley campus. To provide institutional support to Berkeley Student Farms, we staff a full time Agroecology and Wellness Coordinator to serve as a technical and skill-building mentor for students and the land.
