Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, bestselling author of “How to be an Antiracist,” speaks with Saru Jayaraman, the president of One Fair Wage, about the subminimum wage for tipped workers and its legacy of slavery and racism.

The Mendocino Voice caught up with Andrea Brown, the Hopland Scholar for the year 2022-23, and Monica Donegan, who does research on a grant through the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Both are studying Pierce’s Disease in the Almeida Lab at the University of California, Berkeley.

A grant of more than $700,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will support a University of California collaboration to improve and expand undergraduate education in organic agriculture, with an emphasis on supporting underrepresented students.
